Power at remote sites
Many lease sites and camps run on generator. Starlink’s draw is small enough to be a rounding error next to lighting and heat — 20-40 W for a Mini, 75-100 W for a Standard dish. Northern winter
Peace Country winters are long and cold, and the dish is rated to −30 °C with automatic snow melt. Three practical notes:
- Wind-driven snow packs onto low-mounted dishes faster than the heater clears it. Mount high and accessible.
- Heater power draw rises in winter — plan generator or battery capacity accordingly.
- Extreme cold snaps below the rated range are common here; users generally report continued operation, but you’re outside the manufacturer’s stated spec.

Will it work at a lease site with nothing around for 30 km?
Yes. Distance from infrastructure is irrelevant — the connection comes from overhead. You need sky and power.
Can one plan cover several sites?
A Roam plan lets you move a dish between locations. Simultaneous service at multiple sites needs multiple subscriptions.
Is it fast enough for a camp with 20 people?
A single residential connection shared by 20 heavy users will feel slow. For camps, look at higher tiers or multiple connections.
How does it compare to what’s already out here?
Against fixed wireless it removes the line-of-sight requirement entirely. Against cellular hotspots it removes the data cap problem, which is what usually breaks down on connected equipment.
