Starlink Canada has no contract and a 30-day money-back guarantee on hardware. Cancelling is straightforward. Returning the dish after 30 days requires the secondary market (Kijiji, Facebook Marketplace, Reddit). Here’s the full process.
Get Starlink with 1 month free through our official referral.
Order Starlink — 1 month free →Cancelling service (any time)
- Open the Starlink app on your phone
- Tap “Account” (top right corner icon)
- Select the dish/subscription you want to cancel
- Tap “Cancel Service”
- Choose effective date: end of current billing period, or immediately (no refund for partial month)

No fees, no contract penalty. Your Starlink account remains active so you can reactivate later without re-paying for the dish.
Returning the dish within 30 days
If you bought your dish less than 30 days ago and want a full refund:
- Open the Starlink app → Account → Manage Equipment → Return
- Print the prepaid Canada Post shipping label
- Pack the dish in its original box (or any sturdy box with bubble wrap)
- Include power supply, cable, router, and any accessories
- Drop at any Canada Post location
- Track delivery; refund issued within 14 days of receipt
Full refund includes: dish cost, original shipping, taxes. Service fees for active months not refunded.
After 30 days: sell the dish
Starlink doesn’t accept hardware returns after 30 days. Your options:
- Kijiji: typical Standard Gen 3 sells $200-300 (used 12 months). Mini sells $180-250.
- Facebook Marketplace: similar prices, larger audience
- Reddit r/Starlink_Canada: tech-savvy buyers, prices $250-350
- Pawn shop: $100-200, worst value but immediate cash
- Keep in storage: in case you return to rural living later
Transferring ownership of a used dish
Before selling, remove the dish from your Starlink account:
- Starlink app → Account → Manage Equipment → Remove from Account
- The buyer creates their own Starlink account
- Buyer adds the dish via its serial number (printed on the dish base)
- Buyer starts a fresh subscription
WARNING: never buy a used dish that hasn’t been removed from the seller’s account. The dish will not activate for you and will appear stolen.
Pausing instead of cancelling
For seasonal users (cottage, RV): instead of cancelling, switch to Standby Mode at $15/month. This pauses service but keeps your account and dish-to-account binding active. Reactivate instantly via the app.
Standby is only available on Roam plans. Residential plans cannot pause — you must cancel and reactivate.
Common cancellation scenarios
- “Moving to a city with fibre”: cancel service, sell the dish to a rural friend or on Kijiji
- “Speed is too slow at peak hours”: contact Starlink support first — sometimes a software update or different cell allocation fixes it
- “Too expensive after price increase”: switch to a cheaper plan (Residential Lite $60/mo) or pause via Standby
- “Selling my RV / closing my cottage”: cancel service, sell the dish, refund the dish portion via secondary market
- “Switching to Amazon Leo when it launches”: cancel Starlink, keep the dish in storage. Amazon Leo not expected before late 2027.
Cancellation FAQ
Will I get charged on the last day?
Starlink bills monthly. If you cancel mid-month, you pay through the end of the current billing cycle (no partial refund for unused days).
Can I cancel and reactivate later?
Yes. Your account remains active. Reactivation: log into Starlink app, select your dish, choose a plan, start paying again. Same dish, same account, takes 5 minutes.
What if I rent my dish ($15/month)?
Return the dish to Starlink via the prepaid label any time. Stop paying. No early termination fee.
How do I know how old my dish is for resale?
The Starlink app shows your activation date under Account → Equipment. Disclose this honestly to buyers. Most used dishes are 1-3 years old in 2026.
